Sorta an off topic question.  The scroll board at my kids elementary school died and it looks to be the control board.   It's 15 years old and the school was quoted nearly $20k USD to replace it.  It's only about 5' x 2.5' in size.  I was thinking I could easily replace it with a P5 or P10 panel setup and a colorlight board.  I use multiple in our displays and feel comfortable building that out for them but what I don't know is how can I make it easy for the front office to program something like that.  Any thoughts on using a Pi or BBB and then some sort of software to program announcements, birthdays, etc on a panel setup like this?  I don't want to have to show someone how to use xlights. Thanks

Most of the $20k for commercial panels is for the software that is very easy to put Text on. While you and I might think xLights is easy, imagine the average school secretary dealing with layers and shaders and compiling and uploading.

Now a Colorlight receiver and Colorlight Sender board combo might work. If you look at LEDVision software, it can import Word, Excel, PowerPoint onto the defined matrix.

It really works easily with PowerPoint slides (just checked).  Though your 5' x 2.5' size would allow great resolution. (25 panels, or 320x160 pixels for P5 panels).  Also, I'd recommend Outdoor panels because they are much brighter for daytime.
