Which volume to grow during setup?

Hi all,

Newbie here.  I need to know which volume on the sd card to expand.  This appears to be linked to my inability to save the Initial Setup.  I can change it all day long but it doesn't get saved. This has been a real time waster.

That doesn't look right.  It looks like the card was not formatted correctly to begin with.  What size is that card?  I would start over with it.  Use SD Formater and make sure that every partition is removed and you are starting with a clean clear card.  Also make sure that Windows doesn't try and "fix" it after the image is copied to it and you are about to remove the card from the PC because that at times has Windows create a second partition.

That is only showing that you are attempting to use what looks like a 4gb card.  You need at least an 8gb card.  I buy 32gb these days because they are easier to find and the price difference is minimal.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your reply.  In reality, it is a 32GB card.  I will look for a SD formatter that runs on my mac. Any suggestions?

RickR

Ah, the Disk Utility gets the job done.  Starting over.

Just click the "Grow Filesystem" button on the bottom.   It can only grow the last one and that's exactly what it will do.

Hi Dan, thanks very much. I have completed this project now. FPP is working great! Just a quick question with respect to different RPi boards.  Can I use the same disk image on Rpi 4b and Zero 2W?

jnealand

IMHO The easiest way to get the zeros going is to build the image on a fullsize pi and then move the card.  Done that many times.

Excellent!  Thank you for your responses!  I am looking forward to plug and play RPi / FPP!

For the record, Pi images have 2 partitions, a /boot partition (p1) and a root partition (p2).  The initial image is around 4gb which is why it looked like this in the original posting.  When you select "grow file system", it will grow the last partition p2 to the full size of the card.  Using SD card formatter is NOT required as the image burning process does a full overwrite anyway.
