Feel free to participate in the github issue or contribute a fix - removing it isn't our first choice but as always, it's complex.  At this point removing in time for the 8.1 release is better than the current situation where if you enter something in the field NTP does not work at all.

Appears so... if you modify the ntp.conf file and change the minsane value from 3 to 1, save and reboot it will pull the correct time from an internal NTP server.  I am running 8.0 and pulling NTP time from my local server now with the change.  Ticket was closed, but they did not say how they were going to proceed.

The ticket was closed because they fixed the problem! Then put some logic in the minsane value allocation
