Weird date / time issue

I am having issues with the date / time in my FPP. I believe this is the first time I've had this.

My controller is an old F16V2R, but I don't think that's the issue. It looks to be something weird with the FPP software that I updated to v8.2 a week or so ago when I setup. I do not have an RTC connected to the Raspberry Pi.

At 20:30 yesterday - Saturday the 4th of November 2024 FPP was showing Friday the 6th September 2024. If I change the Time Zone and reset it, it updates correctly to Australia's East coast. If I change the NTP server it seems to make no difference. I'm an IT guy, but not very experienced with FPP, and after any clue as to where to look and how to debug.

Thanks,
Rod

There is a current NTP issue listed on github.

https://github.com/FalconChristmas/fpp/issues/2031

There have been several NTP issues with 8.x this year.  Especially on upgraded units from prior versions.

I am running 8.2 OS 2024-10 on a Pi4 and NTP is working fine.  It pulls time correctly from my internal time server.  I did have to install the OS twice.  You might try installing 8.2 over the top of what you have, if that does not work, a fresh new image of 8.2 and restore from backup might resolve.

You do not need to specify a timeserver unless you have a specialized need for it. Delete your Time server.

Having your FPP instance NOT having Internet access, and having a NTP server on the local network would be one of those specialized needs for it.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

That is correct, but the OP was using time.google.com, that wouldn't fall into that category, LOL

Thanks, I'll check out the link and look at reinstalling. Painful as I've never had issues in the past.

To be clear for other commenters, I've tried multiple NTP servers and their IP addresses. The only reason I tried them was because it didn't work after I upgraded and the default setting (blank) was no longer working.

Thanks,
Rod

I did modify my ntp.conf file at one point.  If the above does not resolve, you might take a look at your tos minsane value.

Thanks to those trying to help.

I installed the latest FPP/OS update as there had been a release since I updated and made the ntp.conf change suggested without luck.

I'll see about doing a full wipe/reinstall, but I have a low level of confidence that that will help.

Can I, via the UI, choose to install an earlier version? I'm tempted to go back to 7.x as that was working.

ROd
