No indicators on remotes that connections are good.

When using a Falcon board (F16V3, F48V3, F4V3) when I connect a 4 port Falcon remote (version 1.03) the four LEDs light to show that we have connectivity.  A very handy feature at both setup and troubleshooting.

We now have several Kulp K8 controllers that have the 8 onboard outputs as well as  three RS485 connections for remote connectors.  We noticed tonight that the remotes DO NOT light up the 4 LEDs when connected.  These LEDs do, however, light up when a sequence is running.  The remotes work as expected during the show.

Is this "non-lighting" during connection (without sequence data flowing) on purpose?  Or do I have something hooked up wrong.

Thanks for any guidance.

The LEDS only light when the receiver is getting data.  Falcon boards put out data all the time, FPP only does when you tell it to.

I have 4 lights on most of mine and the boards that have issues only have the two inside leds lit.  not sure what that means but searching

You need to be a bit more specific on what you are using.  As said above, the falcon controllers are always sending out data, even if it is a bunch of zero's.  The Kulp controllers are FPP based and only send out data when there is data to be sent out on a port so if you are using FPP based Kulp controllers, unless you defined all of the ports with nodes, those lights will not light up.  If you did or you are using Falcon controllers, this would indicate that either the cable is going bad, your RJ45 pins are bent or dirty, the controller has bad ports on that connection, or the differential chip has failed on the receiver.  If swapping the receiver with a known good one works, that will eliminate all of the above conditions and point to the last one, a failed differential chip on the card which will indicate that a replacement will be needed.  I tried to ask if anyone knew of a compatible chip but nobody bothered to reply so I can't help you there.

I know I am behind on answering these threads, sorry.

As stated, remotes connected to a Falcon controller show all 4 channel LEDs lit when a cable is properly connected.

All Kulp based controllers do not light up until a sequence (or test) is sent from the controller to the remote.

We simply start a sequence that uses all the outputs from the remote to verify if the connections are working.  A bit more than just having them on, but it works.

Thanks for all the information folks.
