FPP 8 Scheduling issue

I think there's an issue with the scheduler.  I have the latest release of FPP8 and the latest updates.  It's a fresh install from a clean image of FPP8 then the update.  I have it on a test player for testing only and has just the base configuration and network settings so I can access it from WiFi.  I restored the schedule.json file from my production player running the latest FPP 7 release onto the test player, but the schedules do not show up in the scheduler itself, instead just shows one blank event I created.  But the status page shows errors on scheduled events that run playlists that aren't loaded onto the test player.  See attached screen shots.  The schedule.json file is 10.641 bytes in size but will drop to about 443 bytes if I update the scheduler page, but the errors still show on the main status page. So the events I have scheduled are there, but the're invisible in the scheduler page.

This post is also under the topic FPP 8 Released.

You'd like need to attach the json file as well.

It looks like you are not using the FPP Backup function? I have a feeling that you saved or exported a bad .json file. Like was mentioned, include the scheduler.json file.

If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

json file attached.  Had to rename it to .txt in order to upload it.  I also did try the backup/restore feature (which still resulted in the same issue) as well and the attached schedule file is running on my player running the latest release of FPP 7.  That file i've transferred to any FPP 7 player and it loads just fine, just FPP 8 doesn't seem to like it.

That's one of two reasons I will not transition to FPP 8 yet, the other reason is I have a 3rd party power management/UPS board on the players that I can remotely power on/reboot, or force shut down, and supplies power to the players if power should fail, and that board doesn't seem to work on FPP 8 either.  It's a Geekworm X708.  there's a specific sequence to install the software once FPP is running and I can get them to work with 7, but not 8.  I know that's not something you can support since it's 3rd party hardware/software, but it has worked on previous versions of FPP.

You need to install/update the Brightness plugin.   You have brightness commands in the schedule which are not available if the brightness plugin is not installed.    We definitely should make that situation more robust, but the simple fix for you is to get the plugin installed/updated.

Another update, I saw that FPP 8.1 was released so decided to try it.  I started with a fresh FPP 8 image, configured network so I can access it remotely and so it has internet access.  I then upgraded to 8.1.  I backed up config from FPP 7 on the player I have in production which has the schedule showing correctly in it.  I had to do the file copy backup rather than the .json backup, the files it downloaded via .json were zero bytes.

I logged into FTP and accessed the file backup from the production player, downloaded it to my computer, then uploaded that same folder to the backups folder on the test fpp 8 player, it saw the backup folder I transferred, I then restored that backed up folder.  It restored successfuly because the host name and other info also got restored from the main player, but still will not show the schedule, it still does the exact thing as I mentioned in the first post of this topic.

Another thing it's doing is when I reboot after making a change, it no longer connects to my WiFi, instead it switches to WiFi tether mode where it broadcasts it's WiFi SSID of FPP, and I have to log in directly to that and restart the network, the WiFi network settings I applied to connect it to my home WiFi are there, but it doesn't automatically connect.  It's a Raspberry Pi 4 series.  The same Raspberry Pi running FPP 7x does not exhibit this WiFi behavior so it is not a hardware issue.

But but but...did you try what dkulp said to do?

My apologies, I didn't see that post about installing the brightness plugin, which I then posted another message after but was not aware of that post, that fixed the scheduling issue.  Prior to installing that plugin, the scheduler still showed just one item, but after installing that and checking for updates (which it was the current one), the other schedule items appeared.  I had no idea just the absence of that plugin would have caused that issue.  I still have some more testing I'd like to do but at least that solves that issue with the scheduler.
