Hey everyone,

second season with my light setup and I'm perplexed at an issue that I discovered recently. I'm running a Pi model 4 through wifi controlling 2 Falcon F16v4's with an ethernet cable.

I went to setup my halloween show last week and realized I couldn't login to FPP. I restarted the Pi and the falcons with no luck. I noticed that my Pi wasn't putting out any ethernet lights or getting an IP address. I did some troubleshooting, and finally put my SD card in an older Pi model 2. I connected this to my router directly and was able to get an IP address, ethernet lights, and login to FPP directly.

I thought it was a bad Pi, so I got a new one and reinstalled FPP v8. I tried to login to the FPP network (as well as the default 192.168.8.1 address) after installation to set it up and the network never showed up. Thought maybe a bad card, so I reinstalled FPP on a new card, and still nothing. I can't even hard wire it, because I get no ethernet lights or IP address.

I have no idea what the problem is. None of my network settings have changed since the summer when I ran my show without issue. I appreciate any input or guidance anyone has.

Thanks!

AAH

The 192.168.8.x network range is a slightly odd range. 192.168.0.x is far more common.
Can you plug the pi and sd card in question directly into a router and try connecting to it via http://fpp.local assuming you haven't changed the hostname. If you have changed it then you should be able to log into your router and see it.
If you have a fresh install of FPP (being Version 8 ) then you will either need to connect to it a router so that an IP address is assigned via DHCP or alternately look on your wifi for a network called FPP and log into that and then setup the IP and everything else in order to be accessible from your laptop/router wireless network.

The FPP tether feature uses the 192.168.8.x range by default.

The pi4 should be displaying link lights on the ethernet port if there is an active connection there.  If Pi4 is working and you do not have link lights, the OS is not booting up properly, or there are issues with the network cable.  Are you using a SD extender cable?  I have had a few of those go bad.  Might try a different type of SD card.  Unlikely two Pi4s would go bad.
