THanks to all stopping by to check out my issue, I am more familiar with the actual controller but now that i added this smart reciever my settings are somewhat wacked out! I have posted images of my settings maybe you guys can see where i went wrong? When i physically hit the test button on the smart receiver all lights turn on, but when i enable test from the falcon web interface everything turns on with the exception of what's on the smart receiver, well only portions of the Front eaves and window but after that it is all dead. This is my first time running a smart receiver and after reading and looking at some youtube tutorials i got only some of it to work. ANy suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. You cannot view this attachment. You cannot view this attachment.I know there can be a confusion with the serial outputs but i was just trying different configurations to no avail.

Where do you have the sr plugged into the falcon and what are the sr settings?  Port 13-16 assigned letters does not look right.  Should maybe they be setup on port 17-20 instead?

robledjl

As you can see there are plenty of ports in the receiver that I have unused, following a tutorial I figured I'll use port 13 to convert to a Sr, on the sr I am using port 1 and 2. The sr receiver is hooked up to the corresponding ethernet port as well. My confusion was also on the serial outputs, some said to use only the top two and others said to use the bottom two. Hopefully I didn't confuse you more.

JonD

If this a Falcon F16v3, ports 13-16 should belong to the main board.  Are the smart receivers plugged into an expansion board?

JonD

If you're plugging the SRs into a black port on the right side of the Falcon, it would be above my pay grade.  Pretty sure the black side ports are native mode only, but never tried to use that way.  Guessing you can't use letters on the side ports, but only a guess.

First of all, do NOT refer to that as Ethernet (or in this case Ethernet port).  It is serial data.  Doing so will only cause confusion, and under the right set of circumstances, mixing serial data and Ethernet could result in the magic smoke leaking out.  Also, I HIGHLY recommend using a different color Cat-5 cable for Ethernet and serial data.  In my case, E1.31 Ethernet is green and serial data is purple.

Confirming that you have the smart receiver configured as a smart receiver and it is assigned as the "A" smart receiver?

BTW, because I don't like all those spaces with RED, on the E1.31 tab I add Universe 999 (unused) and any unused ports are assigned to Universe 999 with one channel used.

that is true about serial data...i have read and heard about it in different forums but it's hard to get over the "ethernet thing" there are two different colored cables as well, I always seem to have ADHD when it comes to other things like keeping good housekeeping rules but when it comes to this, it's always changing as i add things....i would love to have it more organized which makes it easier to modify in the future. That is something I have to work on but for now im trying to get the smart receiver to light up the rest of my window and all my snowflakes. It is a FV16v3 and the receiver is hooked up to the first port on the right of the board(top right), then on the smart receiver I am using port 1 for roof outline and port 2 as roof outline and then virtual strings for window and snowflakes. I know it has to be something with the settings which i dont get but that's why i like this hobby, it makes you think and troubleshoot until you have to come to forums and talk to the experts, I figured i would ask here before taking it to Zoom.

JonD

The v4 will support smart receivers on the side, but pretty sure the v3 will only support native mode on the black side ports.  The v3 will support smart mode if you buy the 4 port expansion card.  Change the sr back to native (0 - termination on) and get rid of the port letters and see what happens.

Correct.  From the F16v3 manual:   A single Falcon 4-port Differential Receiver (see Section 3.2.3.2.2)
can be connected to any of the serial outputs (also referred to as
DMX Ports). This allows for the Pixel Outputs to be placed up to
250' from the F16v3 controller with a separate power supply.

Going back at some old posts.  It does appear to support smart mode if firmware 2.55 or higher.  However the smart receiver ports are 17-20.  Try moving the props on 13-16 over to 17-20.

robledjl

My firmware is on 2.59. Attached is where I have the smart receiver hooked up which is the one also pictured. You cannot view this attachment. You cannot view this attachment.

sorry for the oversize pictures.

You have to "redirect" what ports you want to use. It looks like you are using ports 13-14 for your receiver but you are redirecting ports 1 and 2?
You have the board configured to have an expansion board? Do you really have one, or are you using the expansion to keep ports 1-16 available?
You really should let xLights manage your controller, it will save you a bunch of time and headaches!

Which is fine, but you have to tell the F16 what port you are redirecting, and you do that in the Serial Outputs and you put Port 1 and 2, you need to change that to 13 and 14...
If you are not daisy chaining the receivers, then it is usually easier to use them in Normal mode (dumb) and don't set ports 13-16 for Smart receiver mode, leave them in normal mode.

Ha! I see what you mean with the ports 13-16. I had originally the smart receiver as 17-21, since the actual F16v3 has 16 physical ports, I then followed someone else's suggestion and ended up in port 13 and confusing myself. I should just leave the boards ports as is and then just add the smart receiver back to port 17 - 21 and change the serial outputs accordingly. I think I had xlights do that last year but now I'll just have to refresh myself how to go about doing that. Thanks for the great information

But in doing it that way, you are now activating the Bank limitations and might run into issues. I don't know if you are aware of how the Banks work?

It is actually fairly simple....but if you run into problems, let us know.
