In order for the backup to record network configuration, I believe that you need to uncheck Protect Sensitive Data and to restore you need to uncheck Keep Existing Network Settings.  While the second one is obvious, the first one is not.  I really hope that they pull 7.3 from the update list as it is in no way ready for prime time, especially a few weeks from show season.  I guess that I was lucky that I have a schedule running all year since my show FPP also runs schedules for my landscape lights so I saw these issues before show season.  Having the landscape lights not light up is much less of a big deal than Christmas or Halloween show not starting.

Good catch, but I was aware of both of those and was still having the issues.  The backups have "unprotected" in the file name, and it did not make a difference on the check mark.  I have installed an additional USB ethernet adapter, and no longer use wifi, so maybe that is messing things up.  Probably is the first time I have restored since I installed the USB ethernet adapter.

I actually have a question and it may not be directly connected to the 7.3 release.  I have TP link setup on my master FPP PI and I had set up one of my Kasa outlets in its configuration to allow them to be controlled by Halloween sequences for an AC prop that runs for a short period of time during the sequence and that worked fine.  Now for Thanksgiving, I have a short 30 second repeating sequence that simply lights up the house lights to orange and lights up the landscape lights in a dimmed mode and keeps them on for the duration.  The outlet that was being used for the Halloween prop is now being used for a Christmas countdown clock and is not part of any sequence and is being controlled by my home automation software.  The problem is that now, every 30 seconds, the outlet is being turned off by FPP as the sequence repeats.  I had to remove the definitions to stop it from happening.  My question is, is this supposed to happen and if so, what is the purpose of the Blank between sequences option in the FPP settings page?

Put the kasa plugin commands in the leadin and lead out sections of the playlist.  That has worked great for me in turning my normal outside light off for the duration of my show and back on after the show.  In re-reading your dilemma I see you needed it during an scheduled playlist, maybe that would be the time to look at using a playlist within a playlist.  Things sure seem to get complicated in a hurry.  sigh.

Yea, I'll just come up with another way to do it next year.  There are many changes that I want to do for the Halloween display next year so it is not a huge issue to change that.  I guess that the Blank between sequences is only for the sequences in a running playlist and it always sends a blank at the start of a playlist.

Does FPP 7.3 work with the Raspberry Pi 5 ?

JonD

Last I knew it did not, but they are working on it.  There have been some recent V5 patches, but would assume it is not compatible unless someone confirms otherwise.

O.K. I'm glad to read others are having issues with the latest versions.  I was humming along nicely and decided to get some updates done and run a Thanksgiving count down and glad i did.  That, similar to the above post about running his landscape lights, was how I found out problems existed in the updates.  Despite what I was told.

Fresh install on my BBB and didn't fix it.  Crashed 3 times in a short time.  Lost count the crashes.  I'm assuming, based on the screen I read, that the developers are getting these crash reports and seeing the problems.  In the last few days I'd say my system has sent 10 plus reports after crashing.  I've downloaded some and saved them then deleted them on the system.

Time to go back to an older version and leave well enough alone.

If it's not on the very latest (7.3.2 at this point), the crash reports are likely NOT being looked at.   Thus, make sure things are updated to the very latest to make sure it's still reproducible.

I am also having issues with 7.3. Only one Pi3b+ out of 4. Could not find github for upgrades. Time reverted to may 15. Replaced with brand new pi 3b+ and same results. Reverted to 7.2 and works normally and can see upgrade from github. But time is still stuck on may 15 even if manually set.

Well I just updated to 7.3.4 which seems to be the latest so we shall see how it acts tonight during the normal scheduled event.

And it crashed tonight.  Just once though so that was an improvement.  Assuming you folks already have the crash report on this.  I don't think the master was affected but I was not able to watch it tonight.  I just downloaded the crash report from the remote BBB and deleted it from there.

Just a FYI, Dan is actively monitoring the crash logs and fixing them almost immediately. Update FPP again and see if it is fixed.
