Falcon Player (FPP) / Re: Wifi on Beagle Bone WB48

This might be an older Wi-Fi adapter that Linux no longer supports.  I had to replace several of mine for that very reason.
You might have some luck by adding a boot delay if your Wi-Fi adapter takes longer to get recognized.

That isn't needed and not recommended.

Falcon Player (FPP) / Wifi on Beagle Bone WB48
Last post by blinkyfort - Today at 05:43:41 PM
Hello,

I'm looking for some help setting up my WB48 to use a wifi adapter.

Device: Wally's Lights WB48 Controller
Version Info
FPP Version:7.5
Platform:BeagleBone Black
FPP OS Build:v2023-12
OS Version:Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)
Hardware Serial Number:
Kernel Version:5.10.168-fpp
System Boot Time:2024-03-03 16:12:15
fppd Uptime:02:21:11
Local Git Version:eacc0bd ChangeLog
Remote Git Version:eacc0bd

The wifi adapter is just one I had around the house, EDUP AC600M USB WiFi Adapter
If I use the FPP Gui and configure the SSID and WPA key, it won't connect.
If I SSH into it, I get 'no result' scans.

Is it the wifi adapter?
Is it WPA listed vs WPA2 my router is running?
Is there another method to configure the wifi? Every time I try to enable the wifi in SSH, I get a 'SIOCADDRT Operation not permitted' via the 'sudo ifconfig wlan0 up' command.

Quote from: e.oelberg on March 01, 2024, 02:07:37 AMI have grouped three matrixes 12 x 60 to form one 36 x 60 matrix.
Is there a reason that you are creating this as 3 different models? Just because they might be physically 3 pieces, that doesn't mean that you have to create them as 3 models.

Quote from: e.oelberg on March 01, 2024, 02:07:37 AMIf I run it on the group. it is completly crippled.
What render style have you tried? Things in groups sometimes behave a little differently and you have to change the render style.

Quote from: e.oelberg on March 01, 2024, 02:07:37 AMI suspect to have made a mistake grouping the models
That could be, but like I mentioned, you really don't need to make them separate.

Thank you for your replies !  Yes I have played with the font size and it is possible to get the system font into a size that it looks fine. The thing is. The 10 and 12 point dot matrix fonts built into Xlights are much better to read. Especially when scrolling and these don't work. I have grouped three matrixes 12 x 60 to form one 36 x 60 matrix. If I run the 12 point Font on one of the three models everything looks fine. If I run it on the group. it is completly crippled. I just see 2 points in the middle.

I suspect to have made a mistake grouping the models, yet If I run a video it looks just fine !

I attached two screenshots. One with system font and one with Xlights font to illustrate the problem

thank you to all of you, Nicholas

Curious, did you rename the video file before uploading or in the playlist on FPP?

Quote from: Markr90 on February 29, 2024, 12:11:16 AMI checked the box "Create Overlays Automatically From Outputs"
And could'nt select an overlay model in the playlist.

If you didn't restart fppd after checking that checkbox, I believe the models wouldn't appear in the dropdown in the playlist editor.

I'm glad you got it working, thanks for reporting back.

Quote from: clonida on February 29, 2024, 05:09:51 AMSo seems you exceed the 256x256 "max" res that Colorlight seems to support, is this to FFP's credit or just Colorlight false limits?
Can you detail a little bit more about the refresh rate? My understanding is that regarding the fps / rate you send data from FPP to the Colorlight, it's the card responsible for repeating and maintaining a high refresh rate (usually 1920hz) so how exactly the chain can affect to the refresh rate?

I think the specs on the 5A-75B are 512x256 and I'm only 256x64 as far as the ColorLight is concerned so should be well within the ColorLight specs.  FPP can work around those specs though because FPP doesn't need to use the same layout of the panels that the ColorLight thinks is true.  I realized this morning that I forgot to attach the image I referenced.  Maybe it will explain more.

I am using outputs 1-4 and have the ColorLight configured as a 256x64 matrix with 8 panels on 4 outputs.  The ColorLight software is limited in how it can lay out panels, so the ColorLight thinks I have them in 4 horizontal rows.  In FPP, I setup the true panel layout.  This means I can't use the ColorLight sender software to drive my matrices, but that doesn't matter to me since I"m using FPP.

I believe we have one FPP user who put a single line of P10 panels across the front of their house and I believe all they used was a single ColorLight card with FPP.  The ColorLight believed it was a compact matrix of maybe 6x7 panels with 6 outputs of 7 panels each, but FPP knew it was actually 6 outputs of 7 panels that were physically laid out as 1 row of 42 panels and FPP mapped the channel data accordingly.

With the refresh rate, the less data that has to be clocked out an output, the more time you have for refresh so you can do faster refresh.  If you have 8 panels on 1 output, it takes 8 times as long to output the data as it would with 8 panels spread across 8 outputs.  That means you can only refresh 1/8 as often if all panels are on the same output.  Most panels have an upper limit on refresh rate, so in some cases it won't matter, but it does help to spread the panels across more outputs if the layout and cabling allow.

Quote from: clonida on February 28, 2024, 11:52:00 AMI am clear that the panels are going to be P4
Is there a reason that you want P4 specifically? Unless your audience is going to be closer than 10' you are probably not going to gain any benefit by using a P4

Quote from: clonida on February 28, 2024, 11:52:00 AMI understand that the lower the scan the brighter
The scan rate doesn't typically define the brightness
