The Raspberry Pi is a computer.
Computers use their CPU to move data around. I don't like to push CPU's to 100% if I don't have to.

So, is there a benefit (i.e., reduction in CPU loading) to only creating the 4 or 5 Universes that I might output in Player Mode? Or does it make zero difference to have all 64 Universes defined even though you only use a portion of them?

And - on the Pixelnet/DMX setup for Bridge Mode

My Halloween Show is using 1 DMX universe and 1 pixelnet universe. Since the FPD has 2 separate PICs, should I put the DMX on PIC#1 and the Pixelnet on PIC#2 ??  Since I'm really not near any limits, will it make any difference?

In player mode the universe setup is used to setup what data is sent out over the network interface. If you are only using Pixelnet products you should set that to one, soon you will be able to set that to zero. No need to send out more data than is needed. You will save cpu cycles by keeping that as low as possible. Although we have tested the player at 64 universes of E131 while sending 64 universes (512 universe, 32678 channels) over to the FPD so it could output to Pixelnet/DMX ports.

In bridge mode the E131 universe setup is used to define the data being received by the Pi Bridge. This again should equal the amount of universes that are being sent by sequence software. Always use unicast if you can.

The data sent to the FPD is fixed at 32678 so you cannot change that.

So, in Bridge Mode, no matter what I have setup, it is outputting all 32,678.
All my choices on that setup screen just determine which RJ45 jack it comes out and on which pair of wires on those jacks.

Correct??

and - if I'm running exclusively in Bridge Mode (dual Etherdongle mode?) should I delete or disable any Player schedules?

In bridge mode it will output all 32K channels to FPD no matter what. No need to diaable schedules in the player while in bridge mode it will ignore them.

The reason I asked is that it doesn't seem to be disabling scheduled shows. That's even when it says Bridge Mode on the Status Screen and I do a Stop/Start of the FPP.
