Question about which files on Player vs Remote

I apologize if this was asked and answered already, but I went back 5 pages and didn't see what I am asking/wondering about. If I recall in reading the FPP 6.0 manual, to get video in a sequence to play on a Remote-controlled device, you upload the full sequence to the Player and *only* the media files (in this case video files) to the Remote device. However, doing this made nothing appear on my remote device (in my case, an HDTV). However, when I deleted those files, and uploaded the V2 Sparse version of all the sequences to my Remote Pi 3B+, my Halloween sequences played perfectly on the TV. Testing with Christmas sequences is showing the same thing.

I suppose I should just go with what is working and not look for other answers, but I am curious if this is how FPP is supposed to work in 7.0 and above, or if I should be trying to figure out how to correctly set up my show devices to play at optimum.

That is correct and there is a newer version of the manual out as well.

BUT the important part is the name of the video!

It sounds like you created a virtual Matrix and sequenced to that? That is different than playing native videos.

A virtual Matrix is typically used when you want to display effects created in xLights (Shockwave, Shaders, etc.)
Displaying native videos does not require anything configured in xLights, just the FPP device configured correctly.

Why not? LOL

This is how it has worked in FPP ever since the ability to play native videos....Nothing has changed.

If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

In order for the "Remote" to play a sequence, it needs all of the same show files that the master is playing.  This is done because in master - remote mode, the master is only sending timing packets to the remotes and in order for the remotes to stay in sync, they need to know where in the show the master is and without the sequence file, how could they do that.  In the early days, that meant that all of the remotes needed the full show sequence files that they would play, even if they were not using most of it.  Then came the idea of sparse files.  These were the same show file sequence names that the master player has and contain the full timing data but only contain the output data that that individual remote is using.  This makes uploads to the player and remotes much faster because these files can be much smaller.
