I am trying to set it as Port A and I know to turn the dial but what position do the terminator switches need to be in If I have a b on the same port on the controller

Only the last receiver in the chain should have termination on.  Termination absorbs the remaining energy in the line and keeps it from reflecting backwards causing undesirable results such as ghosting.  Any receiver behind termination will not get any data and therefore not work.
