F8-B+ locking up BBB

F8-B+ is locking up my BBB from starting. I have a F8-B+ never used. Loaded up a BBB. All set. Once I install the F8-B+ the BBB will not do anything. Im running each on separate power. Jumper to power the BBB from the F8-B+ is removed. Power setting on the F8-B+ is set to 5 volts. Next step?

Are you powering the cape or the BBB or both?  Do you have the jumper set correctly on the cape to indicate whether you are powering the BBB via the cape or not.

I am powering each separate   Jumper 12  (jumper to power BBB) is not on. Power for the BBB is going in the barrel. I have tried both 12 volt and 5 volt to power the F8-B+  The jumper J1 has been set proper each time. This unit is 2 to 3 years old. Never been used or even set up.  The only thing that does happen when power is applied to the board the 8 LEDs do light up saying the fuses have power

You have not mentioned an SD card or version of FPP.  Do we assume that you have those installed as well?

Kinda sounds like a system with no SD card installed.

The SD card is installed  I did flash to the BBB   Verson 7.0 FPP  I did also try an Octoplus on the BBB with no issue

Download the image off Github
Flash to card using Balena Etcher
after starting BBB used FPP move it over to the BBB memory 
Then used FPP to expand the card memory. 

I dont just up grade I always start fresh 
also there is or was no new image for 7.3

How about the 4 small blue LEDs on the BeagleBone itself? If they are not continually flashing, then it is not booting. There is also a Blue power led, is that on?

If the blue LEDS are not flashing, then check the pins inside the SD card reader are not bent.

With out the F8-B+ installed the BBB starts up just fine. All the menus come up fine  Blue power light is on and the 4 LEDs are flashing at the proper times. once the F8-B+ is on the only thing I get is the power light.   So yes when F8-B+ is installed the BBB will not boot.

Well JimmyG, I would say you tried all you could and is determined the F8-B+ is no good. Time to look for a new board.
I have three of the F8-B+ V3.0 boards that have worked flawlessly for years now.
Maybe look at replacing it with a K8 which now has a time clock and temperature sensors.
