Title: Intro to the PocketScroller
Post by: dkulp on January 29, 2019, 10:59:36 AM
The PocketScroller was designed to leverage the power of a PocketBeagle to drive P10 and P5 LED panels.  The PocketBeagle is a smaller version of a BeagleBone Black that strips off a bunch of functionality (like HDMI ports, eMMC, etc...), but still provides the same PRU's, SD card, etc...

PocketScroller Capabilities:
Requirements:
Supported FPP Versions:
PocketScroller support was added to the BBB LED Panels page in FPP for FPP 2.0.   All versions of FPP since 2.0 support it.

Notes:
Availability:
PocketScrollers are available from dkulp's store: https://kulplights.com/product/pocketscroller/ or directly from him (PM him)

Does anyone have a particular USB to Ethernet adapter they like to use for these?  There are a ton out there just didn't know if anyone had any success with one over another.

Thanks!

Wireless is an option too! Use Edimax nano if you go that route.

I'm using the QacQoc USB/Gigabit ethernet (with 3 usb ports, too). Works well.

That actually opens up another question for me...

If I were to use something like that is having a wireless USB adapter along with hardwired ethernet an option?

Yep.  That's how I set up my PBs....   I use one of these with a wifi adapter in the hub part so both wlan0 and eth0 are there so I can dhcp in via my wired network to setup the Wifi settings.    Once setup, I can unplug and just put a wifi adapter in since the wlan0 config is then in place.

That's actually what I was hoping you would say.  That is what I am doing with everything else in the show and my FPP and BBB so that works.

Thanks all!  Orders going in now! :)
