Title: FPP 2.7 Now Available
Post by: dkulp on May 04, 2019, 03:51:30 PM

New Features:
Bug Fixes:
Upgrade Instructions:
If you have a system running 2.4-2.6, you can go to the FPP about page (about.php) and click on the "Manual Update" button. At that point, a big green "Upgrade" bar should appear. You will get all the improvements above except those marked with the "requires re-imaging" notes on the release note for all the versions is upgrading through. Note: there are a LOT of changes in this release. The "Upgrade" button will take several minutes. BeagleBones should take about 15 minutes. Newer Pi 3's are about 10 minutes. Single core Pi's may take over 30 minutes.

That's awesome Dan.Thanks for all the work Dan, Chris and any others that have contributed. I have noticed that there has been a few extra names on the github commits list.

What file allocation system are these 2 builds?

They are both ext4.  The use of btrfs on the Beagles isn't needed much anymore with the FSEQ v.2 changes.

If we upgrade to 2.7, will we have to re-image again before Christmas?

The goal is to not HAVE to re-image.   "Buster" (Debian 10) is due out for the BBB and Pi  this year some time and I do hope to have images based on that, but my goal is that very few things will require a re-image to that for this year.  (one example may be new Wifi drivers or if a new Pi or BBB comes out, might be needed for those hardware)

  • Pi specific:
    • Update rpi_ws281x library to new version to support Pi 3A+

My 3A+ seems to be working fine with 2.7 after some basic testing.  I don't expect there to be any issues since its basically a slightly stripped down 3B+.  But it still shows up as "Unknown Hardware" in Multisync (and has generic Raspberry icon).   Not a big deal, but maybe can be added in the next 2.7 update?

If it helps, here is what it reports for CPUInfo:

Hardware   : BCM2835
Revision   : a020d3
Serial   : 00000000014e85d8

I'd also need to know the contents of "/sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model".   Thanks!

I pushed a quick commit to master to detect the 3A+ based on your info.  I don't have an icon for it (not sure who made the current icons) but it should at least list as 3A+ in the multisync code.   If we need to do a 2.7.1, it will can be included, or wait for 2.8.

Hi, I tried to play some .mp4 videos that used to work on 2.6 on 2.7 but they don't show, is someone having video issues, did something change in terms of codecs? what kind of log should i look into?

Thank you.

I also have loaded up 2.7 on both my Pi master and remote. the remote will not play MP4   it will play fseq file in mulitsync . These were both re image versions. later tonight Ill go back to 2.6 try that then try up grades of remote first then master if those work do re image of remote first then master. try to find where it broke.

In general, if you have it running, go to:   http://ip.address/api/help   and it spits out a ton of information.

So far what I have found If I run 2.7 upgrade on both master and remote the MP4 works. If I use new image 2.7 on both master and remote the MP4 does not work   With 2.7 upgrade on master and 2.7 new image on remote the MP4 does not work   ran out of time to try tonight 2.7 new image on master and 2.7 upgrade on remote  that's for tomorrow night.

I am having the same issue with MP4 playback.

If I image a fresh SD card with v2.7, MP4 files do not play.  When I create a playlist, add the MP4 to it, then play the playlist on the status page, there is no count-down timer that indicates the length/remaining playback time.  It stays at "0".

However, if I upgrade v2.6 to v2.7, video playback works fine.

I figured out the video playback issue tonight and emailed Dan some info.  We could fix it with a new SD image or an update to the existing image.

If you want to fix it yourself, you should be able to login and run the following commands:

Code: [Select]
sudo cp /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin.fpp
sudo apt-get -y install omxplayer
sudo cp /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin.fpp /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin

That did the trick!  Thanks, Chris.  It also fixed my USB sound adapter issue, too.  With the v2.7 image, it outputted static "fuzz" on MP3 audio.  After issuing the commands that you provided, audio works on my adapter for MP3 and MP4 files.  Thanks a million!

Dan did get this image added to the master branch so it should be in the next time we pull updates.

Thanks.

Yep.  I'll likely pull these changes onto 2.7 branch and release a 2.7.1 very shortly.

Once the the v2.7.1 image is available, I'll test a fresh install to see if MP4 playback and the projector plugin are stable.  Thanks for fixing that.

v2.7.1 is available now as an Update to v2.7, its not a full new image.

2.7.1 is tagged.  I am creating a whole new image specifically for the omxplayer issue.   Give me another couple hours.

Hi Dan & Chris,

I discovered that MP3 files will not play back on the v2.7.1 image; I get static out the speakers.  Audio in MP4 files work fine, though.  I am using a USB sound adapter.

In FP v2.6 (and the v2.6 to v2.7 upgrade), Chris told me that the following commands would fix MP4 and MP3 playback.  They did; both MP3 and MP4 files play fine after entering the below commands.

sudo cp /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin.fpp
sudo apt-get -y install omxplayer
sudo cp /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin.fpp /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin

But in the v2.7.1 image (I imaged the SD card), only MP4 playback works for video and audio.  MP3 playback only has static.  The above commands did not fix the problem under v2.7.1.

My OMXPlayer Audio Output in FP settings is set to ALSA.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Thank you,
Tom

omxplayer is not used for MP3 playback, it is only used for MP4.  MP3 in v1.x and prior used mpg123 for decoding MP3 files.  FPP v2.x and beyond uses an internal decoder that Dan wrote which uses libav* for decoding, so I will have to defer to him on whether there are any known issues with that.  Are you using the onboard audio on this system or a USB soundcard?

Hi Chris,

Yes, if you can let Dan know, that would be great.  I am using a USB soundcard for the dual sound outputs.  The USB soundcard worked fine in FP v1.x.

This is the soundcard that I am using:

Thank you for helping!

Is there a full list of the new MQTT implementations? I found the list at https://github.com/FalconChristmas/fpp/issues/505 but am having trouble implementing them.

EDIT: I solved my playlist control problem.. I missed the part where "/set/" was added before the playlist. Correct/working topic is "FPP/falcon/player/FPP-1/set/playlist/{PLAYLISTNAME}/start" and "FPP/falcon/player/FPP-1/set/playlist/ALLPLAYLISTS/stop/now".

EDIT: I solved my event control problem as well! Helps if I put the 01_13 for the event instead of 1_13!

Can someone confirm if this is the correct/current way to trigger events from MQTT? It works but I'm not sure if it is depreciated or not.

Topic: FPP/falcon/player/FPP-1/set/event/

Thank you to all the developers for all the work that goes into FPP!

Thanks!

EDIT:
I found the documentation and I WAS doing something wrong! https://github.com/FalconChristmas/fpp/commit/2c4b05dccb0a1fa896f835a93252ee2a84349ffc
