Title: Projector Recommendations Needed
Post by: koehlerg on August 16, 2015, 09:06:49 AM
First of all thank to all that have contributed to this.Last year when i found out about the FPP, this obsession grew.   I am going to wade into the whole of video this year.  Just a simple video .mp4 clip in a couple of our sequences on the garage door 16'x10'.  I currently have 2 old projections that i have been playing with, an old epson and a NEC either with RS-232.  I am looking for recommendations on a new projector with shutter control thru pjlink or at least controllable via FPP so i can blank the projector during times it is not used in a sequence. Any one have a recommendation for 2800-300 lumens?

We already have a projector Control Plugin that supports this unit as well.

Which projector would the plugin control? Just this one?

Thanks

The plugin was design to support any projector that uses rs232 commands. All we need is the command set from the vendor and we add the desired commands to a configuration from. We currently support BenQ W770ST and BenQ PB7200.

But how do you connect the Pi to the projector for this function?  Rs232? Does it goes through the hdmi?

USB to RS232 adapter and then a serial cable.
Can you send a picture of your projector's serial port?

example of a usb cable. Depending on your version of Pi you may also need a Powered USB Hub.

I see a serial port so all we need is the command protocol for that projector.

I'll see if I can find the protocol document on their website.

Thank you all!  Just ordered it. I went with the BenQ.  No need to re-invent the wheel if you already have the plugin for it. Can't wait to get it and start testing.

I updated the plugin with the codes for the Optoma H181X projector. I have not been able to test it because I don't have that model. You will probably need a 9 pin null modem cable to go from the USB converter to the projector.
http://www.amazon.com/SF-Cable-Null-Modem-RS232/dp/B006W0I3BA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440383495&sr=8-1&keywords=9+pin+null+modem+cable&pebp=1440383495712&perid=0P5DWXPH2MYV110QDH43 (http://www.amazon.com/SF-Cable-Null-Modem-RS232/dp/B006W0I3BA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440383495&sr=8-1&keywords=9+pin+null+modem+cable&pebp=1440383495712&perid=0P5DWXPH2MYV110QDH43)

I need to work with Ben and Captain to get the plugin updated in the next push.

Here is what you can do to get the latest version:

go to Content Setup -> Plugins
Click on the install icon for the projector control
Now go to Input/output Setup
Now you should see the Plugin

Next you will have to manually pull the update from github.

ssh into the pi user fpp pw: falcon
Code: [Select]
cd /home/fpp/media/plugins/
sudo /usr/bin/git pull https://github.com/LightsOnHudson/FPP-Plugin-Projector-Control.git master

Then go back to the projector plugin page and you should see an Update button in the lower left.
That will get the latest version of the plugin when you click it.

The rest should be self explanatory.

Well how do you ssh to the pi? I never done that.
But I went trough the sequence you posted and my projector show up there as an option.
I went to the events tab and selected ON, and worked, then I selected OFF and worked.
Now how do I create a schedule for it?

Thanks

Thanks

Help menu, SSH shell is the easiest if you haven't used a ssh client like putty before or securecrt.

All. have a look at the projector control plugin that you can use in V1.5... there is a plugin sub forum and also in the Wiki saying which versions we support.

Please have a look if your model is not listed it is easy to add.
