Falcon Player (FPP) / Re: BBB Panel testers needed
« Last post by mikejk67 on August 19, 2019, 06:53:01 PM »
Dan, I started testing 3.1 after the official release. Most of my work is pixel art drawn in Piskel. 3.1 changed the colors of my 3d attempt of 3D obects. For example, in Piskel there is a "lightening/darkening option to drag the cursor over existing colored pixels to darken them. I was drawing a 3d box with the top and sides (rows and columns) darkened from the original color. Farther back more darkening was applied. This Piskel object was exported as a GIF and worked very nicely in 3.0. However in 3.1 the darkened rows/columns were not a darker version of the original color, but a different color all together. All my work is played on 1 P5 panel driven by Pocket Scroller. I tried different bit levels, gamma changes, etc., but nothing really helped. I'm  going to be gone for the next week and won't be able to post picture or vids for awhile. After next Monday I might be able to shoot some video and post.

The brand new Vixen version released last week also generates the new FSEQ v2 compressed/sparse files.  Thus, the files are a ton smaller.
Good news.  With trying to relearn Vixen, and other things, I hadn't found that yet.  Thanks.

What you are seeing is the fpp/media directory is exported using samba.  Thus, you can easily mount it as a drive or go to explorer and do \\192.168.1.10\FPP or similar to mount it.   Then a straight copy of the files.

This is most welcome.  I will have a "hardwire equivalent" that will out perform wireless, both in distance and in speed, so this will work very well.

With it mounted, you can also copy the entire thing to your computer to use as a backup if you want.
What I am really looking for is the ability to clone the chip.  Once set up, with all updates applied - including updates to the OS- being able to clone it would be the ultimate in safety - at least around here.  "High Speed Board Swapping" (or "Chip Swapping") is preferable when the display is down and the cars are lined up.

I've tried from firefox, chrome, and safari and it still doesn't work. I set a Desc. on port 1 to "foo" and saved my settings. The string "foo" doesn't appear in the resulting XML file.

I got that awhile back when I was going through a VPN.   There are only a few things I feel it necessary.

As a side note, if you can "pick your country"
my VPN to Falcon does seem to function if it thinks I'm coming from Canada.

For W10, I go thru the network.  file:\\fppbb\fpp   with FPPBB being one of my FPP's  Drop files into the sequence folder or copy then as backup.

Thanks everyone.  It is good to get the different ideas in one place. Please don't hesitate to add to the discussion.

I would like to point out that not everyone is using xLights with its FPP Connect.  Even some that use xLights do not use FPP Connect.  I'm doing a LOT of work in Vixen 3, so like my friends "on both sides of the aisle", manual upload is still preferred.

Note that I have found that my Advanced IP Scanner has a connection feature that allows me to get directly to the directories on the FPP.  Nice!  I'm having trouble posting the screen grab here, but as soon as I upload it, I'll show you what I mean.

As everyone knows I use USB flash drives.  I like it because I can swap out the uSD cards and reboot and all my config files are already done and all the sequence files etc are in place.  That is really useful when moving between FPP versions like going to v3 from 2.7.  I keep spare uSDs that are all ready to go.  All I have to do is image the main OS and tell it to use the USB drive for storage when I first build them.  I only use USB3 flash drives as they are built to a higher quality and the cost difference is rounding error for my display.  With v2 fseqs and sparse files the burden of file transfer has gone away and I no longer remove a flash drive to load anything at the computer.  I will probably end up with 12 remotes this year, had 10 last year.  The only remotes with data files on the uSD are the ones that are built on a Pi zero.   But I say use whatever you feel comfortable with.  I never consider anything like file transfer speeds or read write cycles.  In my opinion they mean nothing, at least for my show.  In my 77 yrs with all my working yrs in the tech field hardware has always been faster than software for most all use cases.

I've got a F8 with afterburner on it I'm willing to part with.
