Title: Newbie wiring help
Post by: phishdad42 on December 11, 2018, 10:36:24 AM
I've got my Pi, the PiCap, software loaded, etc., power supply, etc.,
I purchased a 1m string of neopixels to get my feet wet, however, the string I got has 4 wires instead of 3 which I and the piCap are expecting? Is it possible to wires these into the piCap?

I've got my power supply feeding the pi power through the piCap at the moment, and boots just fine.

Link the string of lights. You may have the “wrong” kind, that has a clock-line

There may be more than 3 wires, but those are "3-wire" pixels.

Look at the strip input end and you'll see +5v, Din and Gnd.  Whichever wires connect to those points are what you want. Din is "Data" input.

(the extra wiring is sometimes added to aid in power injection if you link several 5m strips together.)

Okay, those look fine.  Looks like they've just attached the pigtails a bit odd.

For the PiCap, you should only have V+ (make sure you're powering with the correct voltage), Data (DI-data-in) and Ground.
