Title: xLights Setup for PiCap...
Post by: mikeklingler on December 14, 2018, 08:31:54 PM
I have a Raspberry Pi running FPP with an FPP Pi Cap to run my lights.

My lights consist of 100 WS2811 RGB nodes on one PiCap port and 100 WS2811 RGB nodes on the second PiCap port.

I plan to put these lights on my Christmas tree in the house.

I have run tests on the strings from the PiCap and the strings all work great.

Now I would like to do some music sequences in xLights to download onto the FPP to control my tree. I will have a speaker under the tree stand playing the music.

The problem is, I'm not sure what kind of controller to use in the xLights setup. Since the strings will be run from GPIO ports on the PI, I don't see any controllers in xLights that fit what I will be doing.

Are there any videos anyone is aware of for doing this, or does anyone have some guidance for me?

Thanks!

You already have the Pi/PiCap controller.  Iím not clear why you think you need something else

I know I don't need another controller, but I'm assuming that xLights needs to be setup properly to be able to control the lights attached to the PiCap when the sequence is downloaded to FPP.

Rephrasing my question...

How do I create the proper setup in xLights, so that when sequences created there are downloaded to FPP they will have the proper configuration to control the PiCap attached lights?

Thanks!

Xlights generates an .fseq file of your sequence. Load this file into your P/(attached to your PiCap) to play the sequence

Are you taking about the setting the channels, so they match between xlights and your Pi?

Yes, I am talking about setting the channels, so they match between xlights and my Pi. Right now I can do a sequence and bring it to the Pi and it won't control the lights.

You donít actually need to set a controller in xlights

Just set your start channel for one strand, and the start channel for the second strand.

Then match that in FPP_Channel Outputs_Pi Pixel
