Title: What else
Post by: thewinks on January 07, 2019, 12:18:20 PM
I am going to be getting a PiCap to run a mega tree for my yard next year.

I would also like to automate a few of my exisiting lights but they are just standard C9 string lights.  What else do I need to be able to do that?  Is it something I can do in Xlights?

The PiCap has dmx out so you can run to either some relays or an ac control board for your C9 lights.  Yes xlights can control pixels and AC.

ok cool.  What boards should I be looking at for the other lights?

I like and use Lynx Express but they are hard to find as they are no longer made.  I watch the For Sale section at DIYLA forum (DIY Light Animation).  You have to be a member and make one post before you can see for sale section if I remember correctly.  Others may chime in with other options.  I know several other folks use relay boards but I am not familiar with those.

You can still get a Lynx Express, just made by Minleon

Made with surface mount components instead of home-built.

Thank you Jon.  I was not aware.  Thankfully I've picked up five LEs at $100 vs the $179 at Minleon but definitely good to know.
