I have 2 F8-PB V1 and 3 F8-PB V2 that all got fresh loads of 3.4.  I use tether for a few that are standalone to configure, and a few use tether to talk to a remote or pixelsticks.  When I was running 2.x on a V1 last year worked no problem.  Now on 3.4, they all see the wifi adapters, can setup everything, but they do not transmit.  Can not see the network when dong a wifi scan.  While testing, i tried fresh installs of 3.3, 3.2, 3.1, and 3.0.  It wasn't until I got to 3.0 that I could see the tether network, but couldn't connect.  Anyone else having issues, Or what am I missing?

Do you have more than one FPP "tethering" at the same time?

If so, they are probably conflicting with each other.

Only testing (powering up) one at a time, but they are also setup with each a unique name.

Not all of the USB adapters support tethering.   In particular, I know the mini-ones I sell don't.    Unfortunately, I cannot really tell from the adapter or box or anything if they will work or not.

You can also try flipping to the Kernel drivers.   For some of the USB wifi things, the kernel drivers will allow tethering, but the external drivers won't .  The externals will provide more reliable connections, but the tethering doesn't work.

I tried flipping,  but I'll give it another try.   Three of of the wifi adapters I use are the same from last year that worked and the other I tried was the high gain one I purchased from you.
