1 differential receiver board connected to F16v2

I have a total of 4 differential receiver boards (not expansion boards). I want to connect 1 to each one of my 4 F16v2 controllers. Am I correct by saying if only connecting 1 to each F16v2, I would need to connect to serial port 1? In doing so would I need to set up the controllers in the string port section as having an expansion (16 port plus expansion)? If so, could I then set up my pixel count and universe numbers on port 17,18,19, and 20? If that is the case then the 4 string ports on each receiver board would receive data and send it to the pixels.

I am just trying to make sure I somewhat understand how to connect a receiver board directly to an f16v2 without an expansion board before I test it out.

The only serial port on the F16 that contains all 4 of the serial outputs is port 1.

There are two ways to look at the serial port, either as a duplication of four of the regular outputs, or as four outputs from an "expansion" setting. 

e.g., if you use ports 1 through 12 for directly connected pixels on the F16, then you can assign ports 13 through 16 to serial ports to go out to the remote.
If you use all 16 ports connected directly to the F16, then tell the F16 you have an expansion port (even though you don't physically) and then assign 4 of the outputs from the expansion port group to the serial ports.  We used ports 17,18, 19, 20 for the serial outputs.

The trade offs for each of the methods are pretty obvious.  Using ports 13 to 16, you have empty physical ports off of the F16 itself.  Using expansion ports, you have to split/share the usable channels (1024) into groups for the main board and your "expansion board".  This later hasn't been a problem as we don't run 1024 pixels on any output.  Rarely do we do more than 512.

The choice is yours.

That is exactly what I have done when I needed an extra port or two.  Works great.

I did a test of running just 1 differential receiver and it worked great. I have had the receivers for around 2 years and never used them. I will definitely use them this coming year.
