Hey I am new to the FPP world. I am installing it on a Raspberry Pi 3B, and it comes up with FPP login: what do I put there.

Nothing! It sounds like you connected a monitor to your Pi? If so, a monitor is almost useless. You access everything through a web interface. There are step by step instructions in the FPP Manual here: https://falconchristmas.github.io/FPP_Manual(4.3).pdf and a Step by Step video here:

Like Rick said, a directly connected monitor is not needed. Go to your PC, open a web browser (Chrome is preferred) and enter  http://fpp.local/ to access the FPP user interface

If that doesn't work, you'll need to find the IP address of your FPP.  Since you obviously did connect a monitor, look for where it says "My IP address is: x.x.x.x

Then enter the IP address of your FPP in the web browser.

Evening,
First timer here.
I have Falcon Player 4.5 installed on my PI. I have a monitor connected to the pi to watch the boot process. At the end it says my ip address is 196.168.8.1. I followed the instructions in the FPP manual and attempt to connect wireless. I keep getting no internet message. I clicked on network properties and the IPv4 has an ip of 196.168.8.2. I have not been able to connect to the PI to set up fpp. I am running windows 10  Any ideas?
Thanks PRH

I am confused because the Manual says nothing about connecting a monitor. But, if you are attempting to connect using the Wi-Fi Tethering method, did you log into the FPP network? How are you trying to access your FPP device? fpp.local? What model Pi?

That is normal at this stage of setup.  FPP doesn't have "Internet" access yet.  It only has a connection between itself and your PC.

that's what you want.  Completely normal at this stage of setup when using the WiFi tethering method

HOW are you trying to connect?  If you're following the instructions for WIFI TETHERING then you need to point your web browser to 192.168.8.1

You can not use the http://fpp.local/ method when using WiFi or USB tethering.  That is for later when FPP is up and running on your home network

I'm confused (as usual...haha)...I see instructions on how to upgrade if you're already running an older image....How do you do an install on a completely new and fresh Pi that has never been set up?

Thanks...

You read the second line in the first post in this thread.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

Thanks for the response...  would that be the line starting with "In-place upgrade"?  If so I was reading that and ran into this sentence "Download the appropriate "fppos" file to your computer."

Being less than fluent in this area I had no clue what the "appropriate file" is... Duh on me...Sorry to be so clueless but I don't understand this enough to know intuitively.... Would that be the fppos for 4.5 or the one for the older OS that has to be loaded first?

Thanks...I appreciate the patience necessary to coach my non-technical fumbling...  ;)

Yes, that would be it

No worries, this is something fairly new

No, you download the fppos for the version that you are upgrading to so in this case you would download either BBB-v4.5.fppos or Pi-v4.5.fppos depending on your FPP device

Thank you for the clarification....I'm sort of a read a step, do a step, get a banana type guy.....at least until I've done it enough times to understand what I'm doing....I don't 'intuit' very well.  Math teachers used to drive me nuts when they'd skip 2 or 3 steps ahead in a calculation and do in their head what was intuitively obvious to them but would leave me scratching my head and lost in the dust...Haha....

One last question....what is the "FPP instance" referring to in the in-place upgrade instruction?  Also...these instructions don't refer to the  FPP-v4.5-Pi.img.zip file....is that not used when you load the "fppos" file?

bigwavedave

The zip file is used if you're doing a fresh reimage from scratch.  The fppos file is only used for in-place upgrades.

I suspect they say "FPP Instance", since it could be a BeagleBone, Pocket Beaglebone, Raspberry Pi, Container, etc etc etc.  Just making it a generic reference :)

@Santacarl a FPP Instance is anything that is running FPP. The in-place upgrade is only if you have FPP FPP 3.6.2 (or 4.0-alpha2) or newer already running. The very end of that original post references the initial install image files, like the FPP-v4.5-Pi.img.zip you stated, and you choose based on your hardware, either the BBB or Pi (standard or kiosk).

Thanks for the response....Got it up and running now that I got some help...  I always hesitate just to plunge in to something if I don't understand what I'm trying to accomplish....I've fried too many things doing that...Haha....

But I still didn't use the FPP-v4.5-Pi.img.zip file.....Did I not complete the install...?  Seems to be running....
