FPP Oddness. Remote not remoting, schedule not scheduling???

Okay,

I am running 4.6.1. In normal fashion, I am an OS behind each year... anyway...

I have 2 remotes. The one remote is a pi zero w. Pi 3 on master and a -pi 2 on another remote.

Have in issue with zero remote. every day when the show starts, I have a schedule event which turns on certain lights that are on when there is no show. I use a script to turn them on. Then a schedule even which starts the show which is about a half hour and repeats on the hour.  when the show starts, it turns everything off. all the lights, this is to make sure a command is not holding the lights on,  and then the playlist starts, and the first sequence is just the same lights that would normally be on, for about 20 seconds, and then they fade out before the first song starts..

Well, it's like the zero remote isn't... responding. It stays with the last lights commanded to stay on. I have to restart the FPPD.  Once I do it once, it's fine for the rest of the night.

Second, Show starts at 17:00, or 5pm.  It plays for it's half hour. it's set to repeat after an hour. Come 18:00, or 6pm, nothing. FPP Reports, next play at 19:00 or 7pm.  Why is it skipping 6pm?? I can't see why it would do that.

Anyone have any clue?

I seriously doubt the developers are going to look for or fix any potential bugs in outdated software?

But if you post some logs, scripts, commands, schedules or other relevant information maybe someone could see what is going on? Without details we are all in the dark and can just make wild guesses.

Okay, I figured it out. No thanks to the peanut gallery.

The reason it was skipping was because I had a playlist to turn on lights play for 1 minute, and the next item started another playlist at the same time. This caused it to skip that playlist all together until the next scheduled event.

As for the second remote, I didn't have the multisync script execute pointed toward that unit.So I made entries for each unit that ran part of the same script so that they all got the signal to execute.

Seems to be working now.

??? ??????? Seriously? I asked for information to help you figure out your problem.

Peanut Gallery??, I was the only one that was trying to help you and you want to label me as that? I have helped thousands of people fix their problems and I am sure that by me asking you to post the relevant details it made your issue obvious.

You are welcome from the peanut gallery, and with an attitude like that it may be that you will never get any help from the peanut gallery.

This is old but I am just now seeing the response chain. Poporacer's initial response sounds a bit condescending.

I mean, why mention the dev's looking at old software??  My question had nothing to do with a bug. Looking for advice on where to look.

If you had just said, post some logs and we will take a look, I probably wouldn't have responded the way I did.

Maybe take a look at your response a d see if you can see why I took it the way I did.

And when I said peanut gallery I was talking only about poporacer as the way he responded offended me.

I'm not saying my response was correct. But that's the reason I responded that way.

When your trying to figure something. You can't find the cause and it's frustrating and you go to a forum where you should be able to get help.

And then the first response is that people probably won't help me... it's agitating.

Then the response from jnealand who wasn't even a part of the situation saying what he said is the exact attitude I am talking about. No one said anything about you. I wasn't talking to you or about you yet you feel compelled to make a comment as you did.

To be blunt, grow some thicker skin.  Popo's answer was primarily to ask you for more information.  His comment about old software was completely reasonable.  No one is going to put any real effort into old software.  Likely the first response is going to be update the the current version, and then we'll talk.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

? ? ? ? If you felt that was condescending then you need to get some thicker skin or come into the real world!

I was the only one that provided a response and asked for the info that could have identified the problem and then you got your panties in a bunch because I didn't word things the way you wanted me to?

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMI mean, why mention the dev's looking at old software??
Because I was stating the facts. Many people report problems and those problems were related to a bug that was already fixed. When they fix a bug, it is generally implemented as a new version.

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMMy question had nothing to do with a bug. Looking for advice on where to look.
Your question had to do with a problem, and many times the problem could be from a bug. You provided almost no information for us to help you and I asked for some information that could help us (or you) to identify the problem.

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMMaybe take a look at your response a d see if you can see why I took it the way I did.
I have looked at it several times and do not see anything at all condescending and I am sure if it was, @jnealand  would not have responded to you like he did.

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMI was talking only about poporacer as the way he responded offended me.
Offended? I did not say anything that was offensive.

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMYou can't find the cause and it's frustrating and you go to a forum where you should be able to get help.
umm didn't I ask for information that I needed to help you? Since your problem would have been easily identified if you posted the requested info, how was I not trying to help you? If you would have posted the relevant information either in your original post or as a response to my request, you would have received help, but you decided that you didn't really want help.

I have a feeling that no one else responded to help you because they would have asked for the same things I requested and why would they want to waste their time trying to help you if you are not going to provide the information needed and instead call you names?

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMAnd then the first response is that people probably won't help me... it's agitating.
No, the first response was nowhere near a refusal to help, it was totally the opposite. The response was that if it was a bug, it wouldn't get fixed but to make sure it wasn't a user error, provide the information needed to see if it was user error.

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMThen the response from jnealand who wasn't even a part of the situation saying what he said is the exact attitude I am talking about.
@jnealand has been in this hobby probably longer that most people and if he responded, it is probably because he felt YOU were the one out of line. I am sure if he felt I was out of line, he would have responded to me in a negative way.

Quote from: dreiman on December 06, 2022, 09:38:06 AMI wasn't talking to you or about you yet you feel compelled to make a comment as you did.
Probably because you were acting like a child. Someone was offering to help but because they didn't say it in a manner that you wanted, you pouted, called names and refused to let anyone help you.

The peanut gallery is everyone who reads your posts and you seem to want to further alienate anyone who sees this thread.  This is when veterans who have answers tag you as someone not to try to help because you give no cooperation, do not supply information, insist on calling experienced folks who could help you names.  At this rate you should probably look for a new hobby.

That is exactly how I took it when the peanut gallery comment was posted last year.

I do not know what you expected to get out of bumping this thread a year later at the same time you are asking for help from the peanut gallery in two different threads.

jnealand

You would be better served if you would just apologize and start over.  You are attacking a person who has helped more people than I can count or will ever know.  He is also the one who wrote the manual and is a key interface into the developers.  If you continue down the path you are going you are only digging yourself into a deeper hole than you will ever realize with a lot of very good people.

I sincerely doubt that very few if anyone, but you, can see anything wrong with the way that Popo responded to you.

I would love to hear the opinion of others as well, if my original comment/request was condescending or out of place at all.

I cannot see any way that my comment was out of line at all and when I take my time to personally help someone and they attack me for no reason and call me names, I am offended and will not let someone disrespect me in that manner.
