What is the best way to store megetree pixel strips?

Last year I wrapped up each string and placed it in a garbage bag, and was able to get 4 strips to a storage container.  It worked I guess, but we upgraded the megatree this year, and we have a lot more strings.  Hoping not to double the storage space required.  Curious if anyone has any good pixel strip storage suggestions?

Last year we tried the squid approach...
rolled each vertical strand (or two,three depending on your power wiring....)
into a .... roll...
then packed everything as a "giant, super condensed, krackken" into an old huge Rubbermaid.
I have mixed feelings about the resurrection.

For years I have used the really large plastic tubs (the one with wheels) and laid the strips inlayers with each strip along the outer wall of the tub and subsequent circles just getting smaller for each strip.  I start each strip as a new layer.  Last year when I did that I put some cardboard between layers and I have yet to unpack to see how they held up. Everything worked ok in the past but occasionally a pigtail would get tangled in more than one layer so I'm trying the cardboard separators just because I had the cardboard in house. I have no pictures at this time.  I have two 24 strand trees.  I use two green tubs for one tree and two red tubs for the other tree just to keep them separate althought they are all identical strips.  I also put other things for each tree in the bottom of the tubs like stakes, extension cables, etc.

Sounds like my first attempt was not a terrible way of doing it.  I have got to the place I only buy see-through containers, so I can see what is in them.  Too many times I have moved everything to get to the bottom of the pile, only to find out it was not in the pile I thought it was!     

Storage is getting soooo tight anymore, I thought I would reach out and see if someone had a better way.

I have always layered in the large rubbermaid garbage cans separated by cardboard.  Never had a problem.
