Failed V1.03 diff receiver boards

So I had a display item today that had a poor connection on my power injection and basically the diff board was trying to feed all the pixels.  It was connected on port 3, but rather than the port 3 fuse blowing the upstream fuse blew on my bistro board (all are fused 5 amps).  I replaced fuse, and the diff board powers up but the data LED light does not come on on the diff board and it won't work even in test.  Before I figured out the downstream power injection issues, I tried a second board and had the exact same thing happen.  Upstream bistro board fuse blew but not the fuse on the diff board and when fuse replaced, data led does not light and board won't work, even in test mode.  

After I figured out the power injection problem, replaced with a third board and everything works perfect.  Is there anything I can check on these V1.03 boards?  Its a little troubling that on a simple overload I wrecked 2 boards, is that normal for these?
