Hi there..

I'm new to the forum, been reading for quite some time though  ;)
I've been playing around with my forkineye/ESPixelStick and xlights.

My goal is to make my Christmas tree shine. Therefor I have 3 items
- mega tree with 200 pixel nodes
- Star with 65 pixels
- spinner, within the star 10 pixels.

It would be nice to control them all by this single controller.
I'm able to see output from xlights but I'm unable to make it all work.

Can I create multiple universes on the espixelstick and assign them somehow to the items? or do I have to build other controllers to achieve that.

thanks,
Martijn

I believe the ESPixelStick can receive 4 universes and control around 700 pixels if you use power injection for the pixels.

You can set the models up in contiguous channels/universes in xLights and control them all through the same ESPixelStick.

So to do that I create 3 e1.31 devices in the setup tab?
Let me explain what I do  ???

ESPPixel:
Universe 1 - 512 pixels (tree)
Xlights:
Setup:  e1.31 - 192.168.1.105 - universe1 - 512 channels
Layout: Tree - #192.168.1.105:1:1 -end channel 750

ESPPixel:
Universe 1 - 512 pixels (Star)
Xlights:
Setup:  e1.31 - 192.168.1.105 - universe2 - 512 channels
Layout: Tree - #192.168.1.105:2:1 -end channel 707

ESPPixel:
Universe 1 - 512 pixels (tree)
Xlights:
Setup:  e1.31 - 192.168.1.105 - universe1 - 512 channels
Layout: Tree - #192.168.1.105:1:1 -end channel 1054

I think I mess up the channels..
In my understanding I expect each universe to control each item in the layout.

Not sure how to set it up in Xlights but the concept looks like you can use 2 universes to run your lights.

Normally you set up your props all in one view then map beginning and ending channels according to how many pixels are on each prop?
All you will need to know is where the last tree channel (end channel) ends and the next star channel (start channel) begins.

So 200 pixels will take a total 600 channels?  so start channel 1 and end 90 of  second universe?
the star would use 65 pixels and start at universe(2)  91 and end at 285
the spinner would use 10 more pixels and start at 286 on universe 2 and end at 315
Total channels used is 825

This is based on 510 channels (multicast)

You may have a different setup.
There are probably many other ways to do this as well.

You have your models overlapping and from your last post it looks like you have 250 pixels in your tree, not 200.

The tree is 200 pixels or 600 channels, so it will extend into universe #2.  You don't need each prop on it's own universe, they can be contiguous channels.

Prop    - Start-End
Tree    -     1-600 (200 pixels, 600 channels)
Star    -   601-795 (65 pixels, 195 channels)
Spinner -   795-824 (10 pixels, 30 channels)

So you can to it all with 2 universes.  On the ESPixelStick, it will see 2 universes in and one output of 275 pixels.

Chris if you go contiguous wouldn't  it be for the spinner 796 to 825?

For some reason I thought every universe started over at channel 1-510?

I am confused with all of these controller settings.  When I look at the E682 settings it shows universe channels starting over but when its configured in FPP and Vixen and other controls and sequencers its contiguous.
I wish there was a standard to help keep things simple.

Yes, sorry, 796-825.

Universe channels do start over, but absolute channels don't, so your absolute channel numbers visible in xLights and FPP will be 1-825.  More and more controllers and sequencers are starting to look at absolute channel numbers as channel counts grow.    I don't know how the ESPixelStick assigns it's channel output, but in FPP, you will just send 2 universes of either 510 or 512 channels and that should be it.  You can limit the size of the second if you want, but it probably won't save much time.
